We finally have an answer, YAY!!!

This month I changed OB/GYNs and we did the insemination. After the procedure, the Dr (who is absolutely wonderful) talked to me a little about what tests I've had and haven't done. He decided we should do what he called a "day 22 blood test", so last Friday I went in for a blood test to check my thyroid and progesterone. Why my specialist never thought to run this test, I don't know, and I have been pretty upset with him about it since I got the results. But after having vented on Facebook and getting a few reactions and words of wisdom, I'm trying to just chalk it up to life experience. Although, it has been a painful, depressing, anxiety-filled 8 months we went through (not including nearly a year and a half for surgeries), for what seems like nothing because it probably could have been mostly avoided. Anyway, the results of the test were that my thyroid is fine, but my progesterone is a little low-at about a 10, and the Dr said it's best if it's over 15. This is the reason we haven't been able to get pregnant yet, and if I did get pregnant, then it would have ended up in an early miscarriage. But, this is not a big problem, it's easily fixed. All I have to do is start taking progesterone and then if I get pregnant, continue on it for the first 3 months. Simple as that. So why is it that a reproductive endocronoligist specialist never thought to check that and wanted to go directly to the bigger procedures? We may never know, but at least we found out what's wrong and how to fix it and hopefully we can move on and end up with a baby finally!

I am glad that you finally got an answer. I have hypothyroidism and I thought tht it would be difficult to get pregnant but come to find out, it's not a problem. After all, I have three kids to show for it. I wish you all the good luck and hope to hear from you soon.

That is excellant news! I hope everything works out for you. We will never know why some doctors do or don't do things but I guess all that matters is it's finally been done and hopefully you'll be a Mommy before you know it.

Good luck.

Good luck! It must be such a relief to know what is wrong after all that time waiting and worrying. This has been such a trial for you, but when you have that baby in your arms, it will all be worth it.

Crazy the things/trials we go through-- so glad you're happy with your new doctor and this DR. is doing his job!! We had a friend with that same problem, that wasn't caught until 3 miscarriages, and the miscarriages were at like 17 weeks---can you imagine after all the work to finally get pregnant and then to lose your baby/babies, and that far along?!! So glad you're getting what you need and BEST of LUCK!! And just think how much more you will love your little one when it finally happens and he/she arrives, because you've been waiting PATIENTLY (=0)) for so long! =0)
